Annotations for Not That Kind Of Girl Live Demo

Lyric: I fell in love with her again, my baby
’Cause I’m not that kind of girl
Annotation:
lesbiab

Lyric: So, say goodbye to all my friends
I fell in love with her again, my baby
’Cause I’m not that kind of girl
So, say goodbye to all my friends
I fell in love with her again, my baby
’Cause I’m not that kind of girl
Annotation:
Saying goodbye symbolizes losing her friends because of their disapproval of her relationship with the girl, either because of their disapproval of the girl or homophobia.

Lyric: My baby
Annotation:
This has the same tune and sounds very similar to part of Gun., also by My Chemical Romance. The line Gun. is “now baby”, while this one is “my baby”.

Lyric: ’Cause we’re all just drowning
 All just drowning
Annotation:
“Drowning” could be a term for the narrator becoming depressed due to their issues expressing their gender identity without facing backlash.

Lyric: Everybody’s talking ’bout
The way you cut your hair
I could give a fuck and
 Everybody’s talking ’bout
The way you smoke that there
Annotation:
These lines could be referring to tabloids publishing every tiny detail and rumour about celebrities personal lives. The narrator seems to think that it’s pointless and is like “so what?!”. Given the nature of this song, it could be about rumours of peoples gender identities and (for the last line) possible substance abuse issues.

Lyric: So, say goodbye to all my friends
I fell in love with her again, my baby
Annotation:
maybe he’s implying here, that her friends don’t like the girl she fell in love with or they think badly of her cuz they already had a relationship with a bad ending, so by getting together with her again she’ll disappoint or upset her friends and she is aware of that and still chooses the girl. (kinda gives me “oh well, fck it” vibes)

Lyric: Everybody’s talking ’bout
The way you held his hand
 So, we’ll grip real tight
Annotation:
The line’s talking about how Gerard used to cling to masculinity before exploring cross-dressing. “Everybody’s talking ‘bout the way you left your man” refers to peoples reaction to seeing them presenting feminine as a male.

Lyric: So, wave goodbye and
Annotation:
This line is about saying goodbye to a self restricted by what society expects. This may mean being true to one’s sexuality or gender.

Lyric: Everybody’s talking ’bout
The way you left your man
Annotation:
This could be about the patient’s girlfriend and how she left him in “I Don’t Love You”

Lyric: All your life, I let you down
All your life, I let you down
Not again, not again, not again
Annotation:
The speaker has upset this girl numerous times in the past, and doesn’t want to risk doing the same thing in the future. This could be connected to “This Is How I Disappear,” a love song that did make the cut for The Black Parade. I’m really not so with you anymore I’m just a ghost So I can’t hurt you anymore So I can’t hurt you anymore

Lyric: These boots are made for walking
And that’s just what they’ll do
Annotation:
A reference to Nancy Sinatra’s hit “These Boots Are Made For Walking”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbyAZQ45uww
